I haven't posted anything for almost two weeks now so I thought it would be a good time to update everyone on the status of my band and our music. The good news is, that we have all of the tracking done for our first EP. We found a really great sound engineer for the mixing and hopefully the CD should be ready for mastering and duplication by the end of the month. I think we have some great tunes on there, and this is a great step for us. We have been incredibly lucky with everything and everyone that came together to create this project.
But not everything is happy and sunny in the group. Right now it barely feels like I'm even in a band. The group has been on a bit of a hiatus for the end of summer. My drummer went on a mission trip to Uganda, and just went he got back my singer went home to Yakima to visit his family. Kyle returned sunday in time for my keyboard player to leave on vacation for Tahoe. To be fair to everyone, it was really just random chance that these vacations lined up back to back instead of coordinated for the same time. But its frustrating still.
At this point I am feeling a little bit discouraged about the whole thing. We haven't even had all five of us in the same room for over a month now. There is no definite schedule for rehearsal this week. My drummer never seems excited about the music we make and we are going to have to have that "talk" with him, about whether this is really what he wants to be spending his time on. I love the guy and I would hate to have to find a new drummer at this point. There has even been some unfortunate romance and drama between a few members of the band. It seems to be resolved and everything now, but this is way too early to even look like we are going all "Fleetwood Mac" with everything!
Anyways, I actually just wanted to post this entry so that hopefully someday I can look back on this part of my life and laugh. Its always hard to get a band off the ground, and I'm sure we aren't the first group to have these kinds of issues in the beginning. Do you have any stories about drama and struggles getting a good band to stick together? Lets hear 'em.
